Andrew Kitahara is a PhD Candidate at Carnegie Mellon University in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Andrew joined Professor Elizabeth Holm’s research group in 2016 where he began his research in applied computer vision and machine learning techniques for microstructure characterization. Prior to joining Holm Group, Andrew’s research focused on thin film functional ceramics and automation in materials laboratories. Throughout his research career, Andrew has shown a strong interest in developing an understanding of the relationships between processing, structure, and properties of materials. Today, Andrew focuses on developing low-level representations of microstructure image data with the goal of developing a platform for future materials discovery applications.
